INFANT BRAIN DEVELOPMENT

Thanks to advances in technology (MRI scans, PET scans etc) we now know that
a child’s experiences in the early years largely determine how their brain develops
and whether they will become capable, contributing, well-adjusted adults.

Because the latest research contradicts a lot of the practices that parents and educators
are using today, Educarents aims to provide support for adults to make informed
choices and practice relevant strategies when caring for our precious tamariki.

Nathan Wallis is a University Lecturer in Human Development who has built up a nationwide reputation as a lively, humourous and engaging speaker on brain development.  As well as teaching neuroscience, Nathan is a father, step father and foster parent which gives him the insight to be able to apply this knowledge to everyday life.

This easy to follow DVD allows you to separate the myths from the research, and describes in a nutshell what we can do to help baby’s brain to reach it's full potential.

Why the Early Years Count

Picture

Brainwave Trust Aotearoa has produced an 18 minute DVD showing scientific findings on brain development in the first few years in an easy to understand and easy to interpret format presented by experts in this field such as Dr. Bruce Perry and Professor Sir Peter Gluckman.
A child’s experiences in their early years have a profound effect on the
architecture of their brain and this helps to customise each child’s brain to deal with the environment they grow up in. The information is presented in a format that is suitable for people who work with children and/or families with children. The viewer will gain an understanding of the latest findings in brain research and the important implications of this knowledge on the physical, social, intellectual and emotional development of our children.
All Educarents ECE services have a copy of this DVD available for our educarers and families to borrow.
